When I began travelling the world in 2008, it has been a constant struggle for me keep my communication cost at a lower budget. Sure, the internet has given ways for us to communicate to other people in a cost effective way. But there are times when the person you wanted to communicate with does not have access to the internet.. or does not know how to use the internet for some reason. So what do they have access to? Mobile phones. Practically everyone in the world has a mobile phone. So if you wanted to send a message instantly to someone, you can send then an SMS or a Text message. Now, international rates are actually not cost effective.. and that means you also have to have a local sim card or number from wherever u are to send a text message.
